DESMOND is back in face-to-face or Virtual One day courses.

As part of our continuing recovery work, we are pleased to let you know that the DESMOND programme for patients living with Type 2 Diabetes is now live again. The DESMOND programme is all about giving patients living with Type 2 Diabetes the skills they need to help them manage their condition appropriately.

DESMOND is a FREE one-day group course that patients can attend either virtually or in person. The course helps patients by giving them the tools and knowledge they need to manage their condition effectively. The DESMOND programme has a strong track record of making a real-term positive impact for patients. Research led by the Leicester Diabetes Centre in 2014-2015 showed that HbA1c levels were reduced by about 1 percent for over 1,670 participants who took part in the programme in Leicester that year. We know that you will be keen to encourage your patients to register for DESMOND now that the programme is back up and running. To help you reach out to patients who may be eligible for the programme, we have produced this toolkit.  We will also be using some of this messaging on our own CCG website and social channels to increase awareness across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough of this successful programme, which can be accessed for free through the NHS.

Prior to referral - please ensure that your patient understands that this is a course for those with Type 2 Diabetes, to avoid misunderstanding or confusion. Thank you.
