New: ‘For a greener NHS’ – share your ideas
The NHS recently launched the ‘For a greener NHS’ campaign to support the ambitions set out in the NHS Long Term Plan, and to deliver on the UK’s commitment of reaching Net Zero by 2050. As part of the campaign the NHS has launched a call for evidence inviting staff members from across the country to submit their ideas on how we can make the NHS more sustainable. The deadline for submissions is 22 March 2020, and ideas can be submitted here.
You can also find out more about the campaign and how to get involved by visiting: https://www.england.nhs.uk/greenernhs
Dermatology Service at Cambridge University Hospital
The Dermatology Service at Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) is currently unable to accept general GP referrals from a number of GP practices outside of CUH’s District General Hospital footprint.
The Trust will remain open to two week wait cancer and tertiary referrals. The Trust has been forced to restrict access outside of the agreed area for all routine GP referrals. However, it is not the intention to disadvantage practices within the C&P STP area, and so the community dermatology service available at the Buckden surgery has been extended, and this will support C&P patients to receive as timely a consultation as possible.
Patients referred to CUH are currently experiencing extended waits for first appointments and treatment. This is due to a 12% increase in the number of referrals compared to the previous year, and vacancies within the consultant and middle grade doctor staffing. Plans are in place to recruit more staff.
In order to ensure that we prioritise the most urgent cases, we need to restrict referrals numbers for the time being and the Trust and CCG are reviewing any clinical risks on a monthly basis and will review the restriction again, as soon as the referrals are safely manageable. For patients that choose to book their own appointment, they will need to be informed that CUH is not currently an available choice option. CUH has updated their e-RS Directory of Service to reflect this. Practices should refer to Buckden via e-RS. This service accepts routine referrals and can be found by selecting the speciality ‘Dermatology’ and the appropriate clinic. Thank you for your patience and we will keep you updated with progress with the service at CUH.
