This week we have emailed practices the details of the CCG clinical lead roles advertised below, which are exciting opportunities for a GP to lead on planning for, and the development of, sustainable health services, in particular patient pathways.
The closing date for expressions of interest for the jobs below is 5pm on Monday 12 June 2017. - 1 x GP Governing Body Member – nominations are welcome (8 sessions per month)
- 3 x Primary Care System Leads as the interface between our Member Practices and the CCG
(3 sessions per week, 1 session a week of which will support Medicines Optimisation work)
- 1 x Children, Family and Maternity Clinical Lead (1 session per week)
- 1 x Diabetes Clinical Lead (1 session per week)
- 1 x Quality Clinical Lead, North West Anglia Foundation Trust contract (1 session per month)
- 1 x IMT GP Lead (1 session per month)

New GMC confidentiality guidance for doctors
Doctors are required to hold personal information about their patients in confidence (as set out in the GMC’s core guidance Good medical practice). However, sometimes it is necessary to disclose personal information about a patient - either because there is a legal requirement to do so or other conditions for disclosure are met.
On 25 April 2017 the GMC’s new guidance Confidentiality: good practice in handling patient information came into effect. The new guidance sets out the principles of confidentiality and respect for patients’ privacy that all doctors are expected to understand and follow. It also includes a new section on the responsibilities of doctors for managing and protecting patient information.
The new guidance clarifies:
- The public protection responsibilities of practitioners, including when to make disclosures in the public interest.
- The importance of sharing information in the context of direct patient care, recognising the multi-disciplinary and multi-agency dynamic of modern practice.
- The circumstances in which practitioners can rely on implied consent to share information for the purposes of direct care.
- The significant role that those close to the patient can play in providing support and care and the importance of recognising that role.
The new guidance sets out a much clearer framework for considering when to disclose patients’ personal information. It then applies that framework to:
- Disclosures to support the direct care of an individual patient.
- Disclosures for the protection of patients and othersDisclosures for all other purposes.
There is a new decision-making flowchart to help doctors decide whether personal information needs to be disclosed and, if so, what the justification is for doing so. While this new guidance goes a long way to help doctors to better understand their responsibilities when handling patient information it does recognise that, in certain circumstances when doctors are in doubt, independent legal advice may still be required.

- Mediterranean-style healthy eating advice for Health Check patients A University of Hertfordshire study is offering a free healthy eating website to NHS Health check patients recruited by GP practices. Patients’ evaluation of the website will be published with a view to extending the project nationally. For information or to participate in the study please contact Dr Richard Hoffman (R.Hoffman@herts.ac.uk). Practice staff will be asked to send out information with the NHS Healthcheck invitation, check eligibility for those who express an interest, and collect consent forms. This study has regulatory approvals in place. This is not a Clinical Research Network adopted study and is not funded, (ie this is pilot work that may inform a future Network adopted study if a Research for Patient Benefit funding application is successful).
- CLAHRC EoE Fellowship Programme Coffee morning The CLAHRC EoE Fellowship Programme coffee morning is a great opportunity to find out what the programme offers and how to apply. They are very excited to have two past fellows speaking about their project and experiences of completing the programme. The Govermment’s Heatwave Plan for England
The plan is a key component of emergency planning and is increasingly relevant in adapting to climate change. It provides advice for professionals, organisations, and individuals to enable them to plan for and respond to heatwaves. The plan and associated documents are here.
The Met Office will issue Hot Weather Alerts from 1 June to 15 September 2017, ranging from Level 1 to Level 4. Please see the plan for further details.
Two new resources have also been developed:
- 'Beat the Heat: care home checklist' - a checklist to help care home staff identify situations where overheating may cause harm to health, actions to take, and where to get help and support. This resource is aimed at front line workers (e.g. social care staff).
- Heatwave off the shelf exercise – reviews heatwave planning, response and recovery within local health and social care and regional capabilities, as well as raising awareness of the current Heatwave Plan for England; available from exercises@phe.gov.uk
Updated and new PGDs
Three new PGDs have been uploaded to the CCG website.
- PGD 13 Shingles - Administration of shingles (herpes zoster, live) vaccine to individuals who are eligible for the national shingles immunisation programme for the prevention of herpes zoster (“zoster” or shingles) and herpes zoster-related post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN)
- PGD 16 HebB - Administration of Hepatitis B recombinant DNA (rDNA) vaccine (adsorbed) to individuals considered at increased risk of exposure to hepatitis B virus, at increased risk of complications of hepatitis B disease, or post potential exposure to hepatitis B virus.
- PGD 16a HepB Renal - Administration of Hepatitis B recombinant DNA (rDNA) vaccine (adsorbed) to individuals who are 15 years of age or over and are on haemodialysis, a renal transplantation programme or have chronic renal failure that is likely

Inspire Peterborough teams up with Oak Activities to deliver the most inclusive, accessible and affordable sport and leisure programme ever seen in the city. By teaming up Inspire Peterborough can expand its range of services. Not everyone is interested or able to participate in sport but most people would welcome the opportunity to get a little fitter, socialise and make new friends.

New wheelchair racing club needs new members
The club meets at Peterborough athletic track on Wednesday 6-7pm. Thecycle club are also there at same time. Sessions the £2 per session. No experience needed and equipment is provided, all you need is a bike helmet. There is no expectation and no judgement, its just for fun or heading straight to the top. Come and have a go!
The sessions have been set up by Ian Nolan from Nene Valley Harriers, who also runs the Special Needs Athletics Group, with support from England Athletics, Inspire Peterborough, Vivacity Disability Sports and Living Sport. Peterborough Dementia Resource Centre prepares for Saturday opening
The Dementia Resource Centre in Peterborough is opening its doors on Saturday 15th June to give free advice to anyone with questions about dementia.
Staff will be on hand from 10am – 2pm to offer information, support and advice. The Alzheimer’s Society team are particularly keen to welcome carers who are unable to access our services during normal office hours, and anyone affected by dementia who would like to find out more about the services provided at the Dementia Resource Centre, 441 Lincoln Road, Millfield, Peterborough PE1 2PE (entrance 5 York Road, PE1 3BP)Tel: 01733 893853

Local Safeguarding Children Boards
Online Safety Live Sessions
As part of The UK Safer Internet Centre, the South West Grid for Learning are delivering three Online Safety Live sessions across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough on the 27th and 30th November 2017 aimed at teachers, police officers, social workers, adoption and foster professionals, youth workers and many more professionals and practitioners working with children.
These events are free to attend and will cover a broad range of online safety topics, including the latest legislation and research relating to online safety and safeguarding. The events are constantly adapted to reflect the current state of play and presented by two experienced consultants and will look at how the technology landscape has evolved and the potential future trends, potential risks and effects on behaviour, health, social and emotional wellbeing, privacy and data, gaming and virtual reality, pornography, sexting, extremism, radicalisation and child sexual exploitation.
At the end of the event all delegates attending will receive access to an exclusive online resource area containing links to all the materials mentioned, signposting to sources of help and support as well as a live copy of the presentation itself.

Addenbrooke's - GEMS
The GEMS (GP Evening Meetings) Programme is aimed at GPs and Nurses in Primary Care and is FREE - including a light supper from 7:00pm on the 13 June with the seminars beginning at 7.30pm for an hour and a half. We ask that you pre-register so we know how much food to order! The GEMS programme runs three times a year.

Diabetes Clinical Network
WebEx Tutorial Invite
'Diabetes Prevention - what is non-diabetic hyperglycaemia, why is it important and what should we do about it? - A guide for General Practice.' The Diabetes Clinical Network invites you to attend a live WebEx tutorial on Friday 16th June.
This interactive tutorial will be presented by Dr Chirag Bakhai - GP and Clinical Director Luton CCG, to support the National Diabetes Prevention Programme. These sessions are open to all GPs, Practice Nurses and clinical communities in primary care and are intended to help practitioners recognise patients at high risk of developing diabetes.
The Diabetes Clinical Network will be hosting two separate WebEx times on Friday 16th June 2017:
