Job Opportunity: GP Lead for Diagnostics
We are looking for a GP Clinical Lead for Diagnostics (4 sessions per month) - fixed term to 31 March 2018.
The clinical lead will champion diagnostics for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG and encourage and drive engagement with and between clinicians, partners and stakeholders. The post holder will work closely with the CCG’s project team and with clinicians from all stakeholders in secondary, community and primary care.

World Mental Health Day event at Duxford
More than 400 people attended 'Health and Wellbeing At Work 2017' organised together with the CCG, CPFT, Cambridgeshire County Council, Peterborough City Council along with a number of organisations from the voluntary sector. The event, held on Tuesday 10 October at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, involved physical and mental health advice, high-profile speakers, over 40 stalls and the launch of the new CPFT charity Head To Toe. Dr Gary Howsam, Chief Clinical Officer opened the event along with Tracy Dowling, CEO at CPFT and Charlotte Black from Cambridgeshire County Council. The CCG Health & Wellbeing Champions ran a stall promoting the CCG and work of the Health Champions.
Self Care project wins TWO awards
Congratulations to the CCG's Medicines Optimisation team who won two awards at the Annual PrescQipp Innovation Event this week for their self care campaign project. The awards included being highly commended in the ‘Best Interface Project’ category alongside winning the ‘Silver 2017 innovation award’ which was voted for by all of the delegates who attended on the day.
The award entry focused on the on-going self care campaign project that has helped to reduce the number of self care items prescribed (by 8.9%) resulting in a 16.7% reduction in self care costs for the CCG compared to the previous year.
Well done to all involved!
Self Care week: 13-19 November 2017
Self Care week takes place from 13-19 November 2017. Self Care Week is a national awareness week that focuses on increasing patients' health knowledge and understanding of how to look after their own health. Empowering individuals to self care has many benefits for their short term and long term health, alongside helping to manage demand on health services.
GP practices are encouraged to support Self Care week within their practice. A range of resources such as posters screen savers, website banners and images are available to download from the Self Care forum website HERE. The CCG will also be supporting the Self Care week alongside its ongoing self care campaign activity.
NEW: Winter illnesses resources – posters and flyers for Flu clinics
All practices will shortly be receiving copies of a ‘winter illnesses’ poster and a batch of A5 flyers for flu clinics or patient areas as part of our ongoing self care awareness campaign.
The ‘winter illnesses’ communications toolkit is also currently being developed and will be available to access next week. As with the ‘Back to school’ toolkit, this will provide GP practices with access to a range of resources such as posters, Jpegs for waiting room screens, articles for websites and suggested social media activity to help practices raise awareness within their community.

NICE Guidance
There is a new guideline from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence ‘Child Abuse and Neglect’, that advises the most effective approaches for professionals that support children to recover after physical, sexual and emotional abuse, and neglect. It details a range of talking therapies and parenting programmes that should be used depending on the child’s age and the type of abuse suffered.
Mental Health in Older People, A Practice Primer
The Mental Health in Older People Practice Primer was launched at NHS Expo, jointly published by NHS Improvement and NHS England.
This is a document for colleagues working in primary care, in particular GPs, which highlights symptoms often attributed to ‘old age’ but where a mental health diagnosis and follow-up is more appropriate.

FREE Diabetes Education Online Training (CDEP)
We are pleased to have secured funding to enable our clinicians FREE access to the Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme (CDEP).
