Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG has sent a press release to local media encouraging people to use their local pharmacies for minor ailments over the bank holiday weekend, and including the following link to a list of pharmacy opening times on our website. August 2017 Diabetes Newsletter
Please find attached here the second edition of our newsletter which has been developed to update our GP practices with a new diabetes prevention programme called Healthier You.
The programme aims to identify people who are at high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and then offer them a referral to the Healthier You diet and education programme. The Healthier You lifestyle support programme is specifically designed to meet the particular needs of people who have a high risk of T2 diabetes.
At the moment information is sent out via the Gateway. We are happy to send NHS DPP information directly to your lead within the practice please email capccg.gateway@nhs.net with their contact details and we can ensure they receive all communications about NHS DPP in future.

Reminder: Healthier You Referral Feedback
Based on your helpful feedback ICS, our local provider, are now in a position to provide Practices with information relating to the outcomes of referrals to the programme. We are conscious of the current workload in primary care, and with your agreement would like to propose we share practice generic email addresses (as used previously for RSS triage feedback) with ICS for the purposes of feeding information about your patient referrals back to the Practice. This may also include information about patients who have gone on to develop Type 2 diabetes in the time since their blood test.
For action: However, we accept that not all practices will wish for this information to be shared, or would prefer for an alternative email address to be used for this purpose. Therefore, we would be grateful if you could email priyan.davda@nhs.netby close of play on Friday 1 September to confirm the inbox where this information should be sent. Please be assured we will make it clear that this information is only used for the purpose of feeding back information relating to your patient referrals, and must not be passed onto a third party. Thank you for your help with this.
International GP recruitment programme
NHS England has announced the first expansion of its international GP recruitment programme. This includes just over £1m of funding for Cambridge and Peterborough, following a successful bid led by the CCG. Our proposal is to recruit 30 international GPs in three phases, focusing on Peterborough; Wisbech, Hunts and Fens; and areas of high deprivation in the Cambridge area. This is in line with our local GPFV strategy, particularly our Workforce ‘Ambition 4: Our workforce programme’s ambition is to support our primary care staff in working safely, through recruitment and retention, leadership development and capacity creation.’ We are delighted to have had our bid approved and we are now working to start the recruitment drive as quickly as possible.

Applications are still open for round 6 and will close at 1pm on Thursday 14th September 2017. Complete the online application system here. Northwest Anglia Healthcare Trust
Transfer of services – outpatients, dermatology and radiology
From 1 September, North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWAFT) will be the new providers of the outpatient services at Princess of Wales Hospital, Ely and Doddington Hospital and dermatology services at City Care Centre previously run by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust (CCS).
North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust will also be the new providers of the radiology services at North Cambridgeshire Hospital in Wisbech, previously run by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT).
As referrers, please be assured that there will not be any changes to services or the high quality of services provided. Posters for display in practices attached. All patients will also be notified of the transfer of services in the patient appointment letters.

Serco
IT systems at over the Bank Holiday
Please be aware that Serco IT will be carrying out essential maintenance work over the bank holiday weekend . Please note: there should be minimal impact on GP IT systems.
The work will begin at 6pm on Saturday, 26 August and will continue until 8am on Tuesday, 29 August.
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) has advised us that during this time CPFT staff won’t have access to their CPFT email accounts, so please telephone or use nhs.net addresses where available if you need to contact a CPFT member of staff urgently over the weekend.
The Joint Emergency Team (JET)
The JET provides an urgent two or four hour response service that supports people over the age of 65 or those with long-term conditions in their home environment when they become very unwell and need urgent care, but do not need to go to hospital.

I totally trust their assessment and prescribing skills. They are quick, responsive and helpful, often contacting me while they’re with one of my patients and visiting the practice to update me. JET really has become an extension of the team at Cedar House Surgery.”

Physical inactivity and walking statisticsOver 740,000 adults aged 40-60 in the East of England* do not achieve ten minutes of continuous brisk walking over the course of a month and are missing out on health benefits, according to according to evidence reviewed by Public Health England Public Health England (PHE).
PHE’s new One You physical activity campaign is encouraging adults to build 10 minutes continuous brisk walking into their day as a simple way to improve their health. This is particularly aimed at those who have an inactive or low activity lifestyle and may find incorporating activity into their day challenging. The ‘Active 10’ app has been developed to show how much brisk walking a person is doing each day and how to incorporate more of it into their lifestyles.

Public Health England’s new ‘One You’ app helps adults keep healthy. A daily brisk 10-minute walk can be simple to fit into your everyday life. 50,000 people are already on their way to a healthier lifestyle as they have downloaded the free ‘Active 10’ app. This new app shows how much brisk walking you’re doing, when you can increase your pace and how you can fit more brisk walking into your day. It also sets goals and provides hints and tips to keep you going.

NHS England announces new Director of Primary Care Delivery
NHS England has announced that Dominic Hardy will become its new permanent Director of Primary Care Delivery.
Currently Director of Commissioning Operations in Wessex in the NHS England South region, Dominic Hardy will take over from Rosamond Roughton in October. He will be responsible for primary care, including the Five Year Forward View Next Steps targets, delivering the General Practice Forward View (GPFV) and the public health agenda. Key areas of responsibility includes expanding the GP workforce, delivering improvements to primary care facilities, supporting technology implementation and creating more diverse teams to support staff and patients.
Ros, who is currently Director of NHS Commissioning, is taking a career break at the end of September and is expected to return in January 2019.
End of life care for people with learning disabilities – resources and tips
The NHS England End of Life Care team, in partnership with the Palliative Care for People with Learning Disabilities (PCPLD) Network, has today published ‘Delivering high quality end of life care for people with a learning disability’ – including resources and tips for commissioners, service providers and health and social care staff.
The guide aims to support commissioners, providers and health and social care staff to reduce inequality in palliative and end of life care for people with a learning disability, focusing on The Ambitions for Palliative and End of Life Care.
The development of the guide involved consultation with Public Health England and a range of commissioners, providers and professionals working within palliative and end of life care and learning disability settings. People with lived experience also helped to develop the guide.

Sign-up for this free RCGP half-day event in Norwich to share experiences and successes when working at scale.
This event aims to bring people together to share individual and organisational experiences, including successes and lessons learned, and look to the future to discuss how bigger general practice organisations influences the wider system.
There will be a chance to hear from different at scale organisational leads who will present a case study-style overview of their experiences, which will cover quality, efficiencies and their approach to new models of care. There will also be a Q&A session, a chance to network and share individual experiences, hear more from a system-level perspective and learn about what the RCGP is doing to support people and organisations working at scale.
GPs and primary care staff with an interest in working at scale are encouraged to attend even if they’re not based in the East of England.
