MiDoS Search Tool now available to support Care Navigation
MiDoSis a web-based directory of services search tool which will enable receptionists, care navigators and other clinician’s in GP Practices to search for a wide range of health, community and voluntary services across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and beyond.
Following the roll out of the Care Navigators programme, the need for a central DoS became clear very quickly. As a result, the CCG has worked in partnership with local providers and care navigation gold champions to develop and pilot the MiDoS search tool. The aim of this tool is to:
- Enable care navigation and signposting within primary care
- Reduce the time spent looking for appropriate services
- Provide a central, up to date directory for services
- Assist staff to get patients seen by the right service, first time.
Sessions to demonstrate the new Search Tool have been arranged please see attached flyer for details. Also attached is a flyer explaining MiDos. Please see the Care Navigator page on the website for more information.
JET update

New CPFT service is a boost for stroke patients
A new service run by CPFT is helping patients who are admitted to hospital following a mild stroke to recover more quickly.
The stroke early supported discharge (ESD) team helps those admitted to acute stroke units located at Addenbrookes Hospital, Peterborough City Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn, to be discharged sooner by providing by up to six weeks rehabilitation, either to their home or in a community ward.
The new service is part of a package of measures to help stroke patients and follows a £1.8 million investment from the STP. The investment has seen the development of the integrated community neuro-rehabilitation and ESD service across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. They work closely with CPFT’s neuro-rehabilitation team, which supports people with complex neurological problems who need longer than six weeks of rehabilitation, such as more serious stroke or brain injuries, as well as those with long term conditions like multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease.

Parkrun UK teams up with Royal College of General Practitioners to prescribe active lifestyles to patients and practice staff
Parkrun UK and the RCGP are set to launch a groundbreaking initiative that could see thousands of patients being ‘prescribed’ outdoor physical activity rather than medication.
The initiative aims to improve the health and wellbeing of health care staff, patients and carers, reducing the need for lifelong medication. In 2017, the 1.11 billion prescriptions dispensed in communities across the UK cost £9.17bn.
More information is available here and a toolkit can be downloaded from the RCGP website here.

NHS England: Promoting awareness of physical health in people with a serious mental illness
NHS England’s East Midlands Mental Health Clinical Network has produced a short film to support primary care teams to better meet the physical health needs of people with severe mental illness – and therefore to prevent them from dying prematurely.
The film and an accompanying booklet (attached) support the national focus on achieving parity or equality in how we think about mental and physical health care. The booklet has been designed to be used in conjunction with the short video to stimulate discussion in teams about the small changes in the way services are designed and delivered. The development of the tools was led by the network GP Clinical Lead Dr Sohrab Panday, with input from Dr Sue Protheroe, and the film and booklet support NHS England guidance around improving physical healthcare for people living with severe mental illness in primary care.
