A number of severe infections due to MRSA have been identified in Cambridgeshire.
Can you please ensure that the MRSA information (attached below) is distributed across your teams and service users that fall into the high risk category (people who inject drugs) are made aware of MRSA, in particular the symptoms and the following practical advice to reduce the risk of infection.
- Wash your hands with soap and water
- Clean injection sites with antiseptic wipes
- Use new needles and equipment every time you inject
- Keep wounds covered
If users have any of these symptoms:
- wound redness
- muscle aches
Please advise them to seek medical advice as soon as possible and/or call NHS 111.

SERVICE INFO: Cataract referrals to Addenbrooke’s Hospital
Direct referrals for cataracts from accredited optometrists have been in place for over ten years. Unfortunately, Addenbrooke's continues to receive GP referrals for cataracts. Direct referrals from optometrists provide important optical and ocular health information that streamlines the referral pathway and prevents unnecessary appointments in the ophthalmology department.
As of 01 August 2019, Addenbrooke’s will not be accepting routine cataract referrals from GPs. Patients presenting with cataract should be directed to an accredited community optometrist and referred directly from there. This includes patients who present with a GOS18 form completed by an unaccredited optometrist.
Exceptions include any patient who is physically unable to attend community optometry practice.
Addenbrooke’s work with over 150 accredited optometrists working across almost all Cambridgeshire optometry practices. A list of participating practices is attached – please feel free to distribute this to your patients so they can choose their provider.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions about the pathway.
Reminder: 2019/20 GP Resilience Fund
As in previous years there is an opportunity for vulnerable practices to bid for GP Resilience funding for the financial year 2019/20. As this is a busy period for all practices we have developed the following timescale for putting forward potential schemes:

- Panel to review bids and recommend outcome
- PCCC to approve Panel recommendation(s)
- Practices informed of outcome
A template has been provided to enable practice to complete their bids and the narrative should not exceed 200 words (attached). To support your application a copy of the template and NHSE guidance for GP Resilience funding is available on the Health Professional’s website here: https://www.cambridgeshireandpeterboroughccg.nhs.uk/health-professionals/primary-care/gp-resilience/ where you will also find more information to support you in completing your bids.

Stepping into my Shoes
The Cambridge and Peterborough STP Leadership and OD Network has a priority to embed a system approach to talent management to maximise and retain talent within the system. Where leaders at all levels consistently work together across teams, organisational boundaries, professions and the wider system to help each other do the best they can for the place and populations they serve.
Stepping into my Shoes is a simple concept of matching learners and sharers together with the intention of a mutual learning opportunity. The Learner shares their experience in another organisation with their teams and services, while the sharer reveals their skills and knowledge and in what capacity. Line management feedback on the impact of the initiative will be requested
Please see attached flyer and Q&A for further information.
