NICE reviewed the evidence on lifestyle interventions to control high blood pressure in the 2004 guideline. More recent systematic reviews have confirmed that in randomised controlled trials of predominantly middle-aged patients with mild hypertension statistically significant reductions in blood pressure were found for improved diet and exercise and restriction of intake of alcohol and salt.
