Ely GPs join forces with G’s in vaccination programme

Local GP practices headed out on the road this week to run a Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic for staff at G’s in Barway, near Ely as part of ongoing focus to ensure local communities are vaccinated as soon as possible.

The clinic, that took place on Tuesday 29 June, vaccinated over 200 of G’s staff with the lifesaving Covid-19 vaccine.

Dr Richard Brixey, local GP and Clinical Director of Ely South Primary Care Network, said: “Ensuring our local communities are vaccinated is key, so it’s great we have the opportunity to work with G’s to run this clinic.

“The best defence against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated and we would like to encourage everyone who is eligible to get the jab as soon as possible.”

Henry Shropshire, general manager for G’s, said: “The health and wellbeing of our colleagues is of utmost importance. We were delighted when the Staploe Medical Centre approached us as it has made it even easier for colleagues to get the jab which has been particularly beneficial for those balancing work and family life.”

This follows a series of successful walk-in clinics that have been running across the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area in a range of locations including pharmacies, football stadiums and within the mass vaccination centres, with more planned throughout July. At walk-in vaccination clinics no appointment is needed, and local residents can just turn up. Further details on dates and locations can be found online at www.cambridgeshireandpeterboroughccg.nhs.uk

Or if you would prefer to get dates in the diary, you can still book your vaccination appointments via www.nhs.uk/covidvaccine or by calling 119.

Dr Gary Howsam, Chair of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG, said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for everyone aged 18 and over  to get their COVID-19 vaccinations to ensure nobody is left behind so we are grateful to our Primary Care colleagues in Ely and G’s for their support in running this clinic.

“The COVID-19 vaccination programme success continues in our area, with more than a million doses delivered already which is a fantastic achievement. Vaccines are safe and effective - if you have not had yours yet or are eligible for your second dose please visit one of the walk-in clinics or book an appointment as soon as possible – to fully protect yourself and others.”
