BMI Can Do It, the local NHS-driven healthy living movement, has launched a brand new exercise challenge under the banner “BMI Can Fundraise” to raise funds for fantastic NHS charities across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough throughout the festive period, all whilst helping people move more.
Starting on 1 December, BMI Can Do It will challenge people in the area to do 40 squats, push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks or burpees every day – adding up to a grand total of 1,240 “reps” by 31 December. Challenge participants can download BMI Can Do It’s helpful checklist and sponsor log from the website via bit.ly/BMICanFundraise to get started.
NHS charities in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough do amazing work year-round to support patients and loved ones in our area, and to invest in important research and development. This year has been especially tough for patients and staff in the NHS, and our NHS charities have been working hard behind the scenes to keep doing incredible work for local people.
BMI Can Do It is now calling on people to give back to their NHS through the exciting BMI Can Fundraise campaign. Not only will participants raise money for amazing local NHS charities by taking on the challenge – it’s also a great way to give back to the NHS by moving more to live a healthier, happier life.
The local NHS charities supported by the BMI Can Fundraise challenge are Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, Royal Papworth Charity, Over And Above which supports North West Anglia Foundation Trust, Head to Toe Charity which supports Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, and Dreamdrops, Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s charity.
Dr Jessica Randall-Carrick, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group’s Clinical Lead for Diabetes and Obesity and a local GP, said:
“We’re delighted to launch BMI Can Fundraise, an amazing new challenge that will help residents live healthier, happier lives all whilst supporting our fantastic local NHS charities.
“Getting enough exercise is really important to maintain our health. It can be difficult to know how to start moving more though, which is why we’ve created this challenge to set you a great achievable target that will keep you motivated throughout December.
“Moving more is a vital part of living a healthy lifestyle, but it’s not the only thing you can do to help look after yourself. BMI Can Do It is also here to help you eat well and sleep well – both vital things to support your physical and mental health. If you’ve not signed up to the free BMI Can Do It movement yet, make sure you do so today via www.bmicandoit.co.uk!”
The BMI Can Fundraise campaign is part of the wider NHS-driven BMI Can Do It movement, which residents can join completely free of charge via www.bmicandoit.co.uk to get support to eat well, sleep well and move more.
