Let’s talk about stress

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week (14 to 20 May 2018) is about stress and how we’re coping with it.

As part of the week, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG is highlighting and promoting local services available to anyone experiencing stress and needing help. Stress can be a key factor in mental health problems and some of the symptoms include feeling overwhelmed, anxious, fearful, constant worrying, difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, dizziness, and feeling tired all the time. By dealing with stress it can help with other mental health problems such as anxiety and depression too.

In Cambridgeshire and Peterborough there is lots of help available for anyone who needs help tackling stress:

  • Keep Your Head website: visit www.keep-your-head.com. This website is full of local and reliable information on mental health and wellbeing for children, young people, and adults. It also has details of local mental health services that are available to support you.
  • Psychological Wellbeing Service: call 0300 300 0055 or self-refer online at http://www.cpft.nhs.uk/services/pws/psychological-wellbeing-service.htm. Staff are trained in talking therapy and can help you to deal with stress and related mental health problems.
  • NHS 111 option 2: for anyone in a mental health crisis. This service is for anyone, of any age, who is registered with a GP in Cambridgeshire or Peterborough. Specially-trained mental health staff are available 24/7.

Dr Emma Tiffin, GP Mental Health Lead, said: “Lots of different things can cause stress, from work to having a baby, and financial problems to bereavement. Whatever the cause of stress in your life, it’s important that you tackle it and don’t leave it hoping that it’ll resolve itself.

“There’s lots of help available in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to anyone experiencing stress and finding that it’s getting in the way of enjoying life.
