He has been elected to the post on a three-year term starting in November. As one of the organisation’s three Vice Chairs Gary will oversee external affairs for the RCGP.
Gary completed his General Practice training in Peterborough in 2008 and has practised as a GP in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area ever since. He currently works as a partner at Octagon Medial Practice in Peterborough in addition to his role as the Clinical Chair of the Governing Body at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
Dr Howsam commented: “It’s a real honour to have been elected as Vice-Chair for the RCGP. As the Clinical Chair of the Governing Body at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG as well as a partner at my local medical practice, I see first-hand how important it is that GPs’ concerns are heard within the NHS and beyond.
“I’m very pleased that I will be able to play my part in making sure GPs’ views are taken into account when important decisions about primary care are made.”
Dr Howsam will start his new role in November. He will continue both his role as a partner at Octagon Medical Practice and as Clinical Chair of the CCG’s Governing Body while he fulfils his role at the RCGP.
