Royal Papworth Hospital receives Outstanding CQC rating

Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Cambridge, has today become the first NHS Hospital Trust in the country to receive an ‘outstanding’ rating across all five Care Quality Commission (CQC) domains – ‘safe’, ‘effective’, ‘caring’, ‘responsive’ and ‘well-led’.

The Trust was inspected in June and July, just weeks after moving into a new building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in May, making the achievement even more remarkable. CQC inspectors praised the hospital for the caring culture that runs through the trust.

The CQC report commends the hospital care, treatment of patients and leadership as well as the learning culture that exists at the hospital to deliver best possible outcomes for patients. There was a truly holistic approach to assessing, planning and delivering care and treatment to all patients who used the hospital’s services and care and treatment provided was based on evidenced based techniques and technologies and national guidelines to support the delivery of high-quality care.

CCG Accountable Officer, Jan Thomas, commented:

“We’d like to congratulate all of the incredible staff at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for all of their hard work and dedication that has enabled them to achieve ‘outstanding’ ratings across all five CQC criteria.

“The hospital Trust’s new rating is the well-deserved result of tireless work from doctors, nurses, specialists and wider support staff who all work together day-in day-out to provide excellent care to patients.”
