Offering residents three mini-challenges every week, the challenge has been custom-designed to support people across the local area to eat well, sleep well and move more, and is completely free to join.
BMI Can Do It is working with a number of local yoga teachers and fitness instructors, as well as the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG) lead dietician, to release new recipes and fitness videos throughout the month.
From trying yoga and learning to cook a simple egg fried rice, through to improving the quality of your sleep to getting creative with a healthy soup – there’ll be lots of exciting, easy to try experiences for residents to get involved in throughout the month.
The challenge is part of the NHS’s campaign to help people stay well this winter, including encouraging flu vaccine uptake for those who qualify for a free flu jab, reminding people where to go when they need healthcare support, and providing regular updates on how to reduce your risk of getting COVID-19.
Dr Jessica Randall Carrick, local GP and clinical lead at the CCG for Diabetes and Obesity, said:
“We can all help our NHS by looking after ourselves well throughout winter. There’s lots of things you can do to take care of yourself: Make sure you get your flu jab if you qualify for a free vaccine, don’t put off contacting your GP, pharmacy or 111 if you need medical advice, and make practical healthy changes to your lifestyle to make sure you’re looking after yourself and your body as best as you can.
“We know it can be hard to know where to start when it comes to making healthy living changes. That’s why we’ve created the November Adventure Challenge, here to help you eat well, sleep well and move more through small, fun steps, backed up by a great online community to keep you going, supporting you to feel well and stay well.”
BMI Can Do It member Sarah, who took this month’s Active Autumn Challenge, says:
“BMI Can Do It challenges have been a great way for me to stay motivated and inspired. I’ve made so many healthy living changes, and it’s brilliant to see how big a difference lots of small changes can make. I’ve already signed up to the November Adventure Challenge, and I would encourage anyone to do the same!”
