DAFNE (Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating)

DAFNE is a group education programme for people living with Type 1 Diabetes. The programme is delivered over 5 days (Monday to Friday) to a group of 6-8 people. The course is delivered by a doctor, diabetes specialist nurse and diabetes specialist dietitian.
Aims of the course:

To help people with type 1 diabetes eat what they want, when they want

To adjust their insulin to their lifestyles and not the other way around

To improve blood glucose levels, potentially reducing the risk of diabetic complications without any increase in severe hypos or low blood sugars
DAFNE is provided by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (Addenbrooke's site) and North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (Hinchingbrooke site).

PDAC (Peterborough Dose Adjustment Course)
Peterborough
The course aims to help you to self manage your blood glucose levels and insulin more effectively so you feel more in control.
You will learn:

how to carbohydrate count so that you can adjust your insulin doses to match your meals

how to prevent and manage hypos
-
what to do with your insulin when unwell, exercising or drinking alcohol
-
strategies to help manage your psychological well being
The course runs for one day a week for 3 consecutive weeks, with a follow up day a month later. Each day runs from 9.15am—4pm
The course is run by Diabetes Specialists and is delivered in a group setting so there will be others attending who are just like you.
